All for Nothing – The Life and Death of Bruno Bronn tells the tragic story of one of Cape Town's most well-known gay club owners, who was brutally murdered by one of his employees in 2012.

The Butcher of Kraaifontein

The Butcher of Kraaifontein tells the heartbreaking story of Charmaine Mare, a 16-year old girl who had come to Cape Town in search of work to help provide financial support for her poverty-stricken parents. She arrived in January 2013 and stayed with a friend in the suburb of Kraaifontein. But, for a week, she was left alone with Johannes de Jager, the boyfriend of her friend's mother.  In those few days, recordings that Charmaine had made indicated that De Jager made several unwelcome sexual advances. Although she tried desperately to escape him, she was brutally murdered and cut up, her body parts hidden in parcels. Her chilling recordings, however, ensured that De Jager was caught and punished.

Case Closed - Justice Served is a 13-part true crime series about various cases, ranging from serial killers to abalone poaching, for local television. The series was nominated for a SAFTA Award 2019 in the Best Factual category. 

A Crime of Hate – Funeka’s story

A Crime of Hate – Funeka’s story centres on an extraordinary black lesbian activist called Funeka Soldaat. Through her we are able to get to the heart of a chilling phenomenon known as “corrective” or “curative” rape that is sweeping across South Africa. As its name suggests, it is a form of punishment that is being meted out to black lesbian women in a bid to “correct” their sexuality. In its most brutal form, victims are raped and then murdered.

Cocaine Captains

The tranquil lagoon-side town Knysna on the Cape south coast is hardly the setting one would expect for a high stakes international crime. But in the summer of 2010, the town was the scene of the biggest drug haul in South Africa’s history.
Cocaine Captains tells the story of a trio of businessmen who left the small harbour on their luxury boat, the Toledo, in early December. Five days later, the boat was back, heavily laden. When suspicious police officers search her, they find nearly two tons of pure, uncut cocaine.

Crossbow Killer

On a sweltering hot summer day in February 1992, the unidentifiable bloated body of a man was found floating in the polluted Black River in a suburb of the picturesque city of Cape Town. He had a crossbow bolt through his head. Across town Louisa Chatburn had reported her husband Graham missing just a few days earlier, claiming he had gone for an early morning walk and never returned. Slowly the police put the puzzle pieces together, and the facts about the horrific murder began to emerge. 

The Final Curtain

The Final Curtain tells the story of the tragic and untimely death of legendary South African theatre personality, musician and playwright Taliep Petersen; a beloved Capetonian renowned  for his musicals. Taliep was murdered in cold blood in his home late one night on 16 December 2006. At first police believed it to be an armed robbery gone wrong. But later it came to light that the hit men were hired by Taliep’s own wife Najwa Petersen, after she found out he was planning to leave her.

The Hockey Stick Killer

The Hockey Stick Killer tells the chilling story of Graeme Eadie, who was convicted of beating a man to death during a fit of road rage in 1999. A few years later, he was back in court for another assault.

The Monster Among Us

For four years the people of eTholeni, a small Eastern Cape village near Butterworth, lived in fear because of a brutal serial rapist and killer. Women and children were terrified by nightfall, wondering who will be next to meet their fate by a wielding panga. No-one was safe - even grandmothers were raped before brutally killed. More than 16 people were murdered before the police deemed it serious enough to employ a specialised unit. Eventually, more than 23 people were killed before the killer was tracked down.

A Mother’s Madness

A Mother’s Madness tells the tragic story of a desperate woman in Pampierstad, a small town in the middle of nowhere, who had no-one to help her or her five children when times turned desperate.

Murder of a Former First Lady

Murder of a Former First Lady is about the brutal killing of former first lady, Marike de Klerk. She was the first wife of South Africa's last white president, FW de Klerk. Marike lived alone - as the ex-wife of a president, she was no longer afforded security detail. A man broke into her flat on 2 December 2001, while she still awake. She was stabbed and strangled with such force that all four bones in her throat were broken. Her body was only discovered two days later. This documentary examines the media frenzy that ensued, the investigation by a crack police team, and the trial of Luyanda Mboniswa that made international headlines. 

Murdered on Honeymoon

Murdered on Honeymoon tells the story of the brutal murder of newly-wed bride Anni Dewani while on honeymoon in Cape Town in November 2010. The documentary looks at what happened on that fateful night. It follows the case, mapping out the events that took place leading to a young and beautiful bride being murdered. Against the backdrop of this crime story, the film takes an intimate look at a family in mourning over the loss of a daughter, described as the "heart of the family". 


With intimate interviews of family and friends, the documentary looks at who Anni Dewani was and the difficulty her family has in coming to terms with her death and their search for justice. With her husband, Shrien Dewani, implicated in plotting her murder, the struggle for answers continues as he fights his extradition from the United Kingdom to South Africa. 


The documentary also looks at the South African side of this crime story. With the three men involved in the murder convicted and sentenced to life in prison, their families also have to deal with what has happened. 

    

Murder on Millionaire Mile

On a rainy night in April 1970 in the affluent suburb of Constantia, Cape Town, millionaire Ronald Cohen found the body of his young wife, Susan. He claimed an intruder murdered her. But all the evidence pointed to him. The murder of Ronald Cohen's young wife and mother of his children shocked Capetonians, and the subsequent trial attracted immense public interest.​

Night Terror

In April 2006, a double murder in Cape Town makes world headlines. The two victims are Brett Goldin and Richard Bloom. Goldin - a 28 year old actor at the height of his career; Bloom – a 27 year old promising fashion designer. 
 

Night Terror is a documentary that explores the details of this horrific crime. We track the events that happened from the time the two men left a party to when their naked bodies were found less than 24 hours later.

Ripped Apart – Murder in a Small Town

On 2 February 2013, 17 year old Anene Booysen was brutally gang raped and mutilated. She was badly beaten and her abdomen was cut open with her intestines pulled out as she was left for dead on an empty construction site. She was able to name one of her attackers before she died in a local hospital but the man was later released. 
Only one person was ever convicted for her brutal rape and murder, although many believe more men were involved. The community was at first outraged, searching for answers about how and why this could have happened in their small town. But through the court case, it slowly started to appear as if the community was trying to protect their own, supporting the only person in the dock, Johannes Kana. A friend of Anene. A man who had no remorse for what he had done.

Samurai Killer

In August 2008 an 18-year old pupil attacked four people with a samurai sword at a school in Krugersdorp, leaving one pupil dead. It transpired that he had planned a bloodbath. The case attracted a lot of media attention, also internationally, as the killer donned a Slipknot mask just before the rampage.

The Silence of the Bones

Swaziland 2001. About 35 women and five children are found dead in the Malkerns forest. Their decomposing bodies can only be identified by the clothes lying near their remains. David Simelane confesses to the slayings and leads the police on a gruesome discovery of all the bodies. A trial follows but is dogged by controversy, ill witnesses and even a suicide attempt by Simelane himself. It is by far the longest trial in Swazi history. It is rumoured Simelane is part of a syndicate that harvests body parts for money. Could that be the case or is Simelane just a sadistic cold blooded killer?

 

The Sizzlers Massacre

Cape Town, 2003. A young man stumbles into a filling station, bleeding profusely and covered in sticky tape. He tells the petrol attendant about a massacre and collapses in a heap on the floor. By the time the police get to Sizzlers Gay Escort Agency, it is too late. Nine men are found tied up, face down on the floor, most with their throats slit and all have been shot at point blank range. Two months later two men are arrested. Adam Woest and Trevor They are tried and convicted on nine counts of murder and one of attempted murder. There are many facts in this story that don't add up. Was this a botched robbery or something more sinister? The two men convicted refuse to tell the full story...

A Stolen Life – The Sasha Leigh Crook Story

A Stolen Life - The Sasha Leigh Crook Story tells the tragic tale of an 8-year old girl who disappeared in 2003 from her grandparents' house in Ottery, Cape Town. Her mutilated body was found a few days later in a nearby field. 48 hours later, the police arrested the girl's next-door neighbour, 25-year-old Moegemat Isaacs. 

The Strangler Dossiers

Cape Town, 1994. Police and army sift through the sand of the Mitchells Plain dunes for the bodies of missing children. For the past eight years children have been disappearing from their homes on the Cape flats. The first body was found in 1986. Eight years later eleven bodies were discovered bringing to 22 the number of young boys found sodomised and strangled to death. The serial killer, dubbed the Station Strangler, lured most his victims from train stations and game arcades to their deaths. Police swooped on schoolteacher, Normal Asval Simons. A quiet, unassuming and seemingly upstanding member of the community. He was convicted of killing only the last victim, nine year old Elroy van Rooyen. Eleven years into his sentence, Simons awaits the outcome of an inquest into the deaths of two more young boys. He still maintains his innocence.

’Til Death Do Us Part

’Til Death Do Us Part  explores a crime of passion. Thandi Maqubela was the wife of acting judge Patrick Maqubela. But, in June 2009 he was found dead in his Sea Point flat. Shortly afterwards, his wife, the elegant and stylish Thandi was arrested. What followed was a sensational trial that grabbed national headlines.

When Darkness Falls

Sipho Dube came from a religious family, but from a young age terrorised the community. By 2006, 30 year old Dube was found guilty of murdering six children, one woman, raping three girls and indecently assaulting two boys. He was also convicted of ten kidnappings, one theft, one robbery, one common assault and one assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Throughout his trial he remained unrepentant, rude and aggressive. He displayed nothing but contempt for the court. He was sentenced to ten life sentences and an additional 114 years. Some will say Sipho Dube was born to do evil.

Whispers in the Dark

A 12 year old girl was kidnapped and kept hostage by serial rapist Johannes "Hansie" Mowers in a secret man-made bunker. She was forced to live in this tiny shelter as his "wife" and to take care of his two year old biological daughter, who he had abducted. They eventually had to survive on sugar water, and even snails.


The children were in captivity for almost two years, and after they were rescued spoke only in hushed whispers. Both victims and their families speak out and give us a rare opportunity to understand what they went through and we take a look at their miraculous recovery.

A Fatal Encounter – The Marleen Konings Story (ONLINE ONLY)

Dutch student Marleen Konings took a short holiday December 2003 in the Western Cape interior. She met Ferdinand Mostert in Swellendam, and asked if he wanted to travel back to Cape Town with her. That decision proved to be fatal.

North West Killer (ONLINE ONLY)

This is the story of one of the worst ever killing sprees in South Africa. Several bodies have been discovered within a small area. There seem to be similarities between victims - couples out at night have been kidnapped, raped, and then shot. When a taxi driver is arrested and a gun found in his possession which matches the bullets on crime scene, he is sentenced for murder. But what would drive someone to commit a crime like this?

On December 31 2012, a two year old Cape Town boy is reported missing by his mother. She joins the massive police search for her child. This film tries to explain how a mother’s natural instinct became twisted into a passion for hatred, and led to perhaps the most awful crime of all - killing her own child.

Unsolved – The Story of the Cape Ripper (ONLINE ONLY)

During the period between 1992 and 1996 twenty sex workers were killed and their bodies dumped all over the Cape Peninsula. A task team led by then Sergeant Piet Viljoen embarked on an intensive campaign. This included fingerprinting and photographing all the city’s street prostitutes. Despite a substantial reward no-one was arrested, despite eyewitnesses who saw the alleged and positively identified killer picking up one of the victims.
